Customer Reviews

All I can say is that this particular tool has come in REAL handy in the month that I've owned it. From cutting through wood with nails (deck expansion) to cutting off LARGE branches from a tree(s) that fell in my yard after a storm (and onto my car!), this tool has been used extensively.
The battery life of the 3 amp hour lithium ion battery is amazing! The durability of the saw is impressive in that most of the environments I've used it in have been dirty and wet, yet the saw works like it did when it was new. Only it's transformer looks now have blended in with the dirt.
I actually like the looks of the drill in that conveys that the tool can wreck some damage! Or just plain cut a lot of stuff up without having to worry about running out of juice.

I am looking at new 18v lithium combos and thought Hitachi might be a good choice for my needs. However, be aware that Hitachi offers products in their traditional "cassette" style as well as a newer "slide" style. The slide style versions of the tools often has an "S" in their model mumber to distinguish it from the older push in battery version. From what I can tell, drills and impact drivers are available in both. So if you do like I considered and get a DS18DSAL drill and WH18SDSAL impact tool, and want to be able to switch between the 3.0 and 1.5 a-hr batteries among all your tools, you would want to get the other tools in the slide version, right? Well, it seems that Hitachi has made those tools available in the UK but not here yet. Hmmm. So if you are stuck on Hitachi and want to use one battery across all your tools, stick with the cassette version for now. And a month later, as luck would have it, Hitachi will roll out the slide battery tools a month after you buy them. For now, I waiting until Hitachi makes a more definitive move on the slide battery tools.
BTW, I am just trying to provide info and not judgement so gave this the same 4 star rating it had when I began the review.
