Power and Performance
The contractor-grade DCS385L cordless reciprocating saw features a high-performance, variable-speed motor that drives the blade at 0-3,000 strokes per minute, with an aggressive-cutting stroke length of 1-1/8-inch. Use it with confidence for a wide range of building, remodeling and demolition work, such as, cutting rough openings through walls and roofs, slicing plastic pipe and metal ductwork, chopping up old kitchen cabinets and countertops, and slashing through hardwood flooring. And with the appropriate blade, you can even trim tree branches and sever rock-hard rebar.
Other features include a four-position, keyless blade clamp for quick blade changes; sure-grip, anti-slip rubber handles; blade brake; pivoting adjustable shoe with open top for improved visibility; variable-speed trigger lock.
DEWALT's XRP Extended-Life Battery System
A tool's only useful if it runs long enough to get the job done, and the DEWALT XRP extended run time batteries keep the DCS385L running at full tilt. They provide up to 40 percent more run time than standard Ni-Cad batteries, and any XRP battery can be used with any 18-volt DEWALT tool, which allows you to expand your system by adding other DEWALT cordless tools (sold separately) as the demands of your job grow.

The dewalt DCS385L is very powerful. Great for any task you can throw at it, and the lithium ion battery lasts long and is more powerful than the standard nickel metal hydride or nickel cadium crap that you usually see. Lithium ion is not only more powerful, but it's smaller and lighter weight.
I get alot of usage out of it, and I only carry this case when I need it. I don't have to lug hundreds of tools around.
Batteries are excellent for being outside of a customers jobsite when you can't get access to power, and you only need the use the saw for an hour or so... Obviously, if you need to use a saw all day, it's better to get a plug in, but I can't always get power wherever I need, especially if I'm cutting out tree roots somewhere..
Overall, I have no complaints whatsoever. The saw is so powerful, it will rattle your arm/shoulder and all the way up to your head making your vision start to rattle, no joke. You can't focus your vision on how powerful this is, as your eyes start to shake... Don't forget, this is a cordless unit...
This does not last very long so if you had hopes of using it for demo work you should move along. I bought it to cut through two 24" galvanized culvert pipes that were partially under water. I couldn't use a corded tool because I'd electrocute myself. It took about 10-12 charges to make it through both pipes. It also has a weird rhythm. If you are cutting something that can vibrate it won't cut it at all. For instance, I couldn't cut the branches off of a Christmas tree. The saw would make the tree bounce and it wouldn't cut it. I had to get out my handsaw.
